Abigail gets mentioned a lot but the book gives little sense of her character and she just stays in the background. The characters have become very one dimensional in this book. There was lots of lazy writing story telling repeated variations on things that have happened in previous books, for example what was the point of the Thames Summer Fayre bit in this book? It seemed to be pointless padding and was far better covered in earlier books. The usual atmospheric descriptions of London are present but seem to have taken over the book rather than help the story along. I read the previous books in one go but I found this one dragged on a bit and I kept putting it down and picking it up. I have been waiting for this book to come out in paperback for a while having enjoyed the previous ones in the series.
